THE MAJOR SIGNS

It is well known to every one of us that this world we surely come to an end. But before the day (that this world would come to an end) there will be some signs that will come to let us know that the day is approaching. The signs are of two kinds; the minor signs and the major signs. In-shaa-Allah, we shall be discussing about some of the major sign.

Here, we are going to discuss two among the major sins.

·         The Smoke

Among the major signs which will happen just before the Hour is the Smoke. Allah says:

“Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke, covering the people, this is a painful torment.” (Q44: 10-11).

This clearly indicates that the smoke is one of the major signs. In the Hadith narrated by Muslim from Hudhayfah ibn al- Ghifaari, who said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at us whilst we were discussing something. He said, “What are you talking about?” They said. ’we are talking about the Hour’. He said, “it will not come until you see ten signs ahead of it.” He mentioned the smoke, the Dajjal, the Beast, the rising of the sum from the west, the descent of Eesa (Jesus) ibn Maryam (Mary), Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj (Gog and Magog),and three landslides, one in the east, one in the west and one in the Arabian Penisula, and the last sign is a fire which will emerge from Yemen and drive the people to their place of gathering.”

In another narration the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told us about the effect that the smoke will have on the believers and the disbelievers. He said: “Your Lord warns you about three things: the smoke which will merely make the believers sneeze whilst it will cause the Kaafir to swell up and it will out from each ear. The second is the Beast, the third is the Dajjaal.” (Tabarani)

·         The tribulation of the Dajjaal.

The tribulation of Dajjaal will happen at the end of the time, and is one of the major signs of the hour. The tribulation will be one of the greatest tribulation in human history. Abu Dahmaa’ and Abu Qataadah said: We used to pass by Hishaam ibn Aamir on our way to Imraan ibn Husayn.

One day he said: ‘you pass by me to other men, who did not spend more time with the Messenger of Allah(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than I did, and who are not more knowledgeable about this hadith than I am. I heard Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, “Between the creation of Aadam and the onset of hour there will not be any fitnah greater than the Dajjaal.” (Muslim)

In another report he said: “There will not be any matter more serious than the Dajjaal”(Muslim). For this reason all the Prophets (Peace be upon them) warned their people about this tribulation, but Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the one who warned his Ummah the most about him.

He is One Eyed

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave us some description with which we will use in recognizing him. ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “No Prophet was ever sent but he warned his nation about the one-eyed liar; he is one-eyed, and between his eyes it is written ‘Kaafir’ (disbeliever) (Bukhari).
