THE BEST OF MANKIND

...SO, WHO IS YOUR MODEL?

There are so may "common but strange" things we seepeople do around us. they are common because they are so widespread and at the same time strange because they are unusual and difficult to exxplain!
nowadays, you see men trying to look like females, you see some of them with plaited hair, ear rings, necklace e.t.c. the females too arenot left out.they also try hard to imitate the men. the sight of women in tighting fitting trousers, body hugging t-shirt, very low hair cut, dresses exposing their body parts e.t.c are so common that if you are not dressed up as such, people will think there is something wrong with you!
some of them even build their bodies so that they can have the same masculine look.
Sadly, this strange trends are catching on very fast; although they were very rare not so long ago. i call my lecturer telling us about the terrible time faced by the first ldy to put on pair of trousers in her home town. people went as far as asking themselves how she would be able to urinate!
our concern here is not to look at the evidences that say that those things are are not permisible; rather, we want to look at how those things have become widespread and what should be our own attitude towards them.
The root cause of this problem is that people, especially the youth s, have taken their examples from individuals that they are not worthy of being examples. Micheal Jackson, Dennis Rodman, J.J Okocha, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, 50 Cent, Mike Tyson, among others, are some of the people that we conciously or unconciously emulate.
We emulate these people, the people we see on television, listen to on the radio or read about in our daily newspapers. they are celebrated and therefore we see them as succesful people that should be emulated. but in the true sense of succeess, they hardly qualify. these people are failures ecause they disobey Allah and also go about propagating their sins. These people that we are eager to use as models are people of desire. they are like animals and therefore should not be emulated. Allah says about them:
"Have you (O Muhammad) seen him who has taken as his ilah (god) his own vain desire? Would you then be a Wakil (a disposer of affairs or watcher) over him? Or do you think most of them think or understand? They are like cattle, nay, They are even farther astray from the path." (Q25: 43-44).
Again, we should not be carried away by the number of people doing something and therefore, think that it is right. Allah says"
"And if you obey most of them on the earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie." (Q6:116).
For us Muslim teens, our attitude should be that we should not join them in this wrong ways. Rather we should follow the person that Allah has confirmed as being the best in terms of examples.
Allah says:
"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes (for meeting with) Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much. (Q33:21).
He, Exalted is He, also says:
"And you verily, you (Muhammad) are on an exalted (standard of) character." (Q68: 4).
Now, what do you think? Would you rather emulate the people whom Allah has described as being more astray than the animals or the one that has been described with having the best character and who we have been ordered to follow and copy? Its your choice!
