STEADFASTNESS UPON THE SUNNAH

This is an important topic which need to be discuss because nowadays many thing had been introduced by people which they also called Sunnah. So if we did not understand what the Sunnah is, we are also going to accept different things and also call it Sunnah. But the important Sunnah is that which the prophet salallahu ‘alaehi wasalam brought to us and it is Qalallahu, Qala Rasul waQala Sahabah (Allah said, messenger said and companions said). What we are going to take as religion is what we can find evidence for in the Book of Allah (Qur’an), which the explanation (of the Qur’an) is found in the way of the prophet salallahu ‘alaehi wasalam and the way the Companions practicalize it. This is because anybody can take an ayat (verse) from the Qur’an and interpret it the way he/she likes, even the most misguided person who called him/herself uslim will also take an from the Qur’an and interpret it the way he/she likes. The khawarij also till today use the Qur’an to defend their misguided way, which is why Umar bn Khattab may Allah be please with him said:

 “There will come a time where some people who will debate with you using the misconception in the Qur’an . so hod them with the Sunnah.”

Allah subhanahu wata’ala said:

“We have send down the dhikr (Qur’an)to you (O Muhammad, salallahu ‘alaehi wasalam)! To explain to Mankind what Allah sent to them)."

 Which means we need the Sunnah of the Prophet salallahu ‘alaehi wasalam to understand the Sunnah and also we cannot neglect the understanding of the Companions because these are the People Allah subhanahu wata’ala eulogize in the Qur’an. So whatever they (the Companions)did not do as religion or did not understand, we cannot also take it as religion nor understand it. Udhaifa bn Yamman said to his students that:

“whatever you know they called worship, do not it if the Propet’s Companions did not do it.”

Therefore, the knowledge of our religion (Islam) is what Allah said, what the Prophet salallahu ‘alaehi wasalam said and the understanding of the Sahabah. This is what we should stick to anytime and anywhere. It is not that we will take a scholar and follow him blindly because the son of Adam will always do mistake. One of the Companions said:

“be careful with the mistake of an ‘aalim (a scholar) because shaitan can speak from the tongue of an ‘aalim.”

So whoever follows this will be guided by Allah but he who follow blindly the scholars will be misguided.

I pray Allah subhanahu wata’ala make us know what is right and make us follow it and make known to us what is evil and make us stay away from. Wasalallahu ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala ahli wa sahabi wa salam, ameen.
